14 nations to join Dance Xchange

DUMAGUETE CITY – Dumaguete City will host the 5-day 2018 Dance Xchange to be participated by 14 countries and several other cultural groups from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao on April 26-30, 2018.

Provincial Board Member Mariant Escano Villegas said that the staging of the Philippine International Dance Festival is in line with the national proclamation declaring every fourth week of April every year as National Dance Week.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo confirmed that the participating countries include cultural groups from South Korea, England, Hongkong, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, India, Brunei, Japan, Bangladesh, Russia, Turkey and Taiwan.

Philippine cultural dance groups will also be in attendance, to wit: Dabawanon, Hinugyaw, Kagayon, Dles Su, Gambang, N21, UE, Saot Capiz, Kehelegal, HCSB, LBDT, J Crisis, Gen San, Skip, Saclag, Butwaan, Sinukwan, Sinanduloy, MEV, Kahayag, Cebu, Kutawato, ADS, GAP, PNU and Indajinis.

The event will not only bring performers that will present their native dances for free in Quezon Park, Plaza Escano and Pantawan in the Boulevard but also workshops by renowned international and local dance scholars to develop a new breed of instructors that will carry on the rich tradition in the correct and genuine manner.

Outreach workshops will also be conducted in Tanjay City, Mabinay, Amlan, Pamplona, Bais City, Valencia, Bayawan and Manjuyod.

Both Mayor Remollo and BM Villegas justified the local funding counterpart of the city government pegged at P1.9 million, which is a prudent investment, with the expected arrival of foreign guests and other local tourists, who will spend more during their one-week stay benefiting the vendors, hotels, restaurants and other tourists destinations.

This will also serve as the best venue to promote Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental to the home countries of the foreign performers in their hundreds including the media mileage that the city will get with due to a guaranteed international, national and local media coverage of the event. The National Commission for Culture and the Arts has provided some P 8 million more to ensure that this international event will be a resounding success.
