2 shot dead; 5 die in crush

At least 7 persons were killed while 12 others were injured in separate shootings and traffic accidents in various parts of the province last week. However, all these incidents were not related to the upcoming elections.

In three shooting incidents, two in Dumaguete City and one in Bayawan City, the victims are alleged to be police characters.

A porter identified as Claidy Estocado a resident of Barangay Looc was shot to death while processing the papers of a cargo at the Dumaguete City port. Unfortunately, two others, who were in the wrong place and time, were also injured and were identified by the authorities as Gilerto Bagarinao a sidewalk vendor and Glecerio Abugan, a passenger bound for Dapitan.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old juvenile, Dominic Nepomocino was shot in the head by motorcycle-riding men while walking towards his home along Bayawan-Mabinay Road. The victim was transported to a hospital in Dumaguete City to receive better medical care.

Finally, a third shooting incident last week claimed the life of a person who was previously linked to illegal drugs in Dumaguete City. Oscar Tanilon Liu was shot near the public market by four motorcycle riding men, Tuesday.

On the other hand, 5 persons were killed in two separate road accidents in Guihulngan City and Tanjay City.

In the first incident, two passengers of a utility truck identified as Fretse Payusalan and Alecman Maruhum died when the vehicle filled with several sets of sound system fell on a ravine in Barangay Magsaysay Guihulngan while on their way to La Libertad town.

Ten other companions were injured and brought to the District Hospital. All the victims are from Talisay City and Tabugon, Cebu.

The next day, three men died on the spot when the motorcycle they are riding collided with a 10-wheeler truck in Barangay Polo Tanjay City. The fatalities identified as Andrew Quiniquito, Primo Saspa Tinga Jr. and Fernando Lara, were not wearing helmets and other safety gears while traversing the national highway.
