NEGROS ORIENTAL – Newly assumed PD/PSSUpt. Edwin Portento told a press conference: Many shootings are under investigation. We are doing our best. Individual case folders are being prepared so that our work will proceed in ending this problem. These cases are the most difficult to solve and murder cases. Very difficult to find out who did it—but with the support of the Local Government, particularly I think the Peace and Order Council (POC) is trying to improve the forensic and crime laboratory. It is very helpful for us to identify the suspects and do the scientific investigation.
We are hoping that with the training and equipment, we can improve the capacity to solve crimes, not only here in Dumaguete but in all other places as well. It is very difficult to solve murders and most of these cases are drug-related incidents.
There were 11 shootings in Dumaguete alone, 74 in the entire province, from January to September of this year, 2017.
