Architect Ned Carlos, design principal of Carlos & Antique Architects, presented insights on how culture should define Filipino Architecture and create architectural visions for the Philippines during National Architecture Week (NAW).
National Architecture Week is held annually by architects in the Philippines and celebrated here by the local United Architects chapter in the second week of December. It showcased fresh ideas of architects, aspiring architects, and architecture students alike. This year, NAW focused on the future of Filipino Architecture.
Looking at examples of great architectural visionaries like Frank Lloyd Wright and the Philippines’ very own 2018 National Artist for Architecture Bobby Manosa, Architect Ned Carlos inspired the architecture students of Silliman University, Negros Oriental State University, and Foundation University to celebrate Filipino design by looking all the way back to the country’s pre-colonial past.
His (Carlos) talk ended with a challenge for aspiring architects to draw inspiration from Philippine culture and incorpoarate various elements in their own design.
