Twenty of the country’s top teams in Beach Volleyball will be back to Dumaguete this April for the summer edition of Beach Volleyball Republic Incorporated.
On the other hand, the country’s top two rivals in the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) tentatively the De La Salle University and Ateneo De Manila will clash in an exhibition games also slated this April at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex.
Among the star players expected to join the BVR leg in Dumaguete City namely Charo Soriano, Gretchen Ho, Fille Cainglet-Cayetano, Dzi Gervacio, Bea Tan and Alexa Micek.
The twin events this coming April are geared towards strengthening the city’s position as the sports tourism destination in the country next to Clark, Pampanga.
In the field tourism, it is important to note that the arrival of visitors in a city generates revenues for the place. As per Department of Tourism estimate, every local tourist spends an average of P 4, 000 per day while every foreign tourist spends an average of P 7, 000 per day whereby creating economic activities in the community.
Due to the excessive promotion of the city as a sports tourism destination the visitor arrival has increased to 706,689 in 2018, versus 615,861 in the year 2017 while the average occupancy of the hotels is steady at 76% in 2018.
