Basay 11 fund drive hits P900k

A DepEd-inititated fund drive for the victims of the tragic road incident in Mayabon, Zamboanguita late last week has raised P900,000 so far.

The Bayawan City division has just released accounting of contributions meant to help defray hospital and burial cost.  This also included over $500 from an online fund campaign.

Financial assistance of P20,000 has been given to each of the families as distributed by DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones.  Management of the commuter van who caused the accident also gave an additional P5,000 for each family.

Five High School students and one teacher died in this accident when the commuter van the victims were riding skid, eventually hitting a hauling truck full of sugarcane. Survivors are currently recuperating in different hospitals in the city.  Two, however, remain in critical condition.
