Christmas break will begin one week earlier than initially scheduled by the Department of Education. This is designed to provide more family time for both learners and educators.
Originally scheduled on December 22, 2018, Deped Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones amended an earlier order providing for the School Calendar for 2018-2019 to change the date of the Christmas break one week earlier or starting December 15, 2018, which is still intended to be a class day for student activities.
The order scheduling the Christmas break on December 15, 2018 covers all private and public elementary and Secondary schools across the country.
Magtolis said that the department “values the importance of spending quality time with the family, The Christmas season provides an opportunity for Filipino learners to strengthen their emotional bonds with their family.”
However, resumption of classes is scheduled on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 and the last of classes is slated on April 5, 2019 as originally set.
News of the early Christmas break were well received by parents, teachers and the pupils prompting them to adjust their vacation and recreation plans.
