DUMAGUETE CITY – In response to Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo’s request, the Regional Director of Environmental Management Bureau of R-7 has endorsed to the EMB central office the plea for P 12.5 million financial assistance to close dumpsite in Barangay Candau-ay.
Director Cuñado of EMB-R7 is asking the EMB Director approval of the request in accordance to the estimated cost of the closure and rehabilitation of the Candau-ay dumpsite pegged at P 12.5 million.
Mayor Remollo made the request following the approval of the Safe Closure and Rehabilitation Plan of the dumpsite by the EMB-7 to ensure the least financial burden on the part of the city government.
If approved, the city government will promptly close the dumpsite so that its rehabilitation could begin. At the moment, heavy equipment and other materials that will build the enclosure of the dumpsite are ready to undertake the task.
Meanwhile, the city government will also prepare for the establishment of a Materials Recover Facility also in Candau-ay where all collected trash will be sorted and the residual wastes be disposed to a sanitary landfill.
The city will also proceed in the preparation of building a sanitary landfill in the same site unless a written and categorical notice from DENR prohibiting the same will be received.
