Foreign retirees meet P.R.A brass and Mr. Mayor. Phil. Rretirement Authority officials and Mayor Felipe Remollo assures the foreign retiree community in Dumaguete of the initiatives and projects being implemented by the city government to enhance the services and ease in residing here. The city has been adjudged as the Best Retirement Place in the country by the Philippine Retirement Authority.

DUMAGUETE CITY – As if in recognition for making Dumaguete the most-preferred or the best retirement city in the country by the Philippine Retirement Authority, the city government is extending its good will to foreign retirees, and would like to give them preferential treatment to make their stay here comfortable and memorable.

In fact, the Philippine Retirement Authority will open a satellite office in Dumaguete to specially attend to the needs of legitimate, retiring expats.

However, it does not exempt them from all laws and ordinance. The more the expats to lead in its compliance than its breach. Law violators will be treated equally by law enforcers. Those foreigners who display public arrogance will be treated accordingly.

Officials from the Philippine Retirement Authority engaged dozens of foreign retirees in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental on Thursday to re-orient them on the status and developments of their Special Resident Retiree’s Visa.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo pledged to work in close coordination with PRA under General Manager Bienvenido K. Chy on how to further promote the rights and welfare of the retirees here.

Recently, PRA awarded Dumaguete City with the distinction as the Best Place to Retire in the Philippines based on the criteria set by the United Nations, International Living, World Health Organization, and other international organizations. Some of the factors for judging include cost of living, friendliness of locals, climate, health care, and peace andorder.

The activity feature speakers from PRA namely Atty. Antonio Rivera, Mariel Jade Monteagudo, Francis Jeffrey Marasigan, Pedro Del Espiritu, Orlando Habitan and Lerma G. Abesamis.

The speakers also fielded questions from the retirees on ID renewal, re-stamping, certification of membership, bank transfers, property ownership, withdrawal of deposits, conversion of time deposit into active investments, cancellation of SRRVisa and Other services to secure clearances from the National Bureau of Investigation, Land Transportation Office, etc.

PRA will soon establish a satellite office in Dumaguete City to directly and swiftly respond to request for assistance of the retirees.

The Philippine Retirement Authority is an attached agency under the Department of Tourism with the prime objective to develop and promote the Philippines as retirement haven as a means of accelerating the social and economic development of the country.”
