Governors of Negros island

Thanks to Historia de la Isla de Negros, Filipinas (1974) by Angel MARTINEZ CUESTA, O.A.R., let the following Spanish governors in Negros Island be added in the list of corregidores found in Wikipedia:

José Claveros (1673-1675); Felipe Cueto (1675-1676); Agustín Crespo (1676-1677); Andrés de Prada (1677); Francisco Sánchez (1679-1681); Roque de Llamas (1681-1683); Gaspar Sánchez (1683-1685); Adriano Alfaro (1685-1687); Blas Guitérrez (1687-1689); Juan Jurado (1689-1690); José Jiménez Bonilla (1690- 1691); Bernardo López (1691-1693); Tomás Delgado (1693-1695); Francisco Jiménez (1695- 1697); and Juan Estévanez (1697-1699).

The recurring question is often asked: Did these Spanish officials neglect Negros Island?

Fast forward, we should add in the list of corregidores in the eighteenth century:

Francisco de Figueroa (1722); Bartolomé Cabezón (1722-1724); José de Espino (1724-1727); José Cayetano de Herrera (1727-1730); Juan Bautista Guescum (1730- 1733); Diego de Torres (1733-1736); Julián de Lemos (1736-1739); Juan Bautista Torralba (1739- 1742); José Antonio de Lara (1742-1745); Manuel García de Rivera (1745- 1748); José Antonio de Lara (1748-1751); Francisco Alvarez (1752-1755); Vicente Pilares (1756- 1759); Andrés Morales (1759-1764); José de Castro (1764-1769); Alejandro Ortega (1769- 1772); Juan José de Mijares (1773-1777); and Luis Fernando de Luna (1777-1779).

Fr. Angel MARTINEZ CUESTA, OAR deserves to be congratulated for paving the way for further research work on Negros.
