Contrary to the expectation of many, President Rodrigo Duterte ultimately decided to pro claim August 21, 2018 as both a special nonworking and regular holiday in one.
President Duterte through Proclamation No. 556, declared, Tuesday, 21 August 2018, a regular holiday throughout the country, in observance of Eid’l Adha (Feast of Sacrifice).
Many expected that there will be two holidays next week, August 21 and 22, some were even optimistic that August 20 will also be declared a holiday to spur long vacations and create more economic activities.
However, some were mildly disappointed and confused since Eid’l Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) is supposed to be in August 22 to be observed by other Muslim countries.
Meanwhile, August 27, which is the National Heroes Day will be the next holiday after August 21.
Some private institutions and even the Department of Education that announced holiday observance on August 22 will amend their earlier announcements to be in accord with the the President’s proclamation.
