In her very recent State of the Division address, outgoing-Superintendent Evangel Luminarias reported on the accomplishments of the 18 public elementary and 7 high schools managed by the Department of Education.
Students and faculty under the division have performed well and topped some of the provincial, regional and national competitions including the Palarong Pambansa and Central Visayas Regional Athletics Association.
Luminarias also credited the strong support Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo and his administration for the healthy and robust relationship between the Division and the Local Government.
Mayor Remollo pledged to provide additional funds next year for the construction of school fences and setbacks, bigger incentives to student-athletes and coaches, administrators, faculty and staff, including construction of more facilities to help enrich the learning experience of the thousands of students.
Mayor Remollo rallied the 1, 007 teaching and nonteaching staff of the City Deped to support the hosting of the ASEAN School Games here in November 2020 as a means to strengthen the city’s image as an emerging sports destination in the country.
Under Mayor Remollo, a total of P 509, 500 in cash was given incentive to athletes and coaches who won medals in the recent Central Visayas Regional Athletic Associations. The Dumaguete City Division placed 3rd Overall in CVIRAA and received “Outstanding” rating as Division host by the 18 other division in Region 7. About 63 athletes, coaches and assistant coaches were sent to Davao City as part of CVIRAA delegation that competed in the Palarong Pambansa.
Luminarias lauded the teachers and administrators for significantly reducing the expenses for water and electricity bills by saving up to P 640, 000 in the first quarter of 2019 compared to the same period in 2018.
It was learned that in 2018 the division paid P 589, 944 for water consumption, which was reduced to just P 264, 281 in 2019 while power consumption dropped from P 1.19 million in 2018 to just P 816, 470 all in the first quarter of 2019.
Supt. Luminarias also formally inducted into office the newly hired teachers that will serve an expanding and diverse student population now stands at approximately 26, 000 pupils. Luminarias bared that all available teaching positions have been filled up by professionals who were hired for being the most qualified among the applicants.
The City Deped has an annual budget of P 475 million for personal services, MOOE and Capital Outlay. The Special Education Fund also totaled P 41.8 million in 2018 with some P 20.6 million already utilized for different projects with a balance of P21. 2 million for other undertakings.
Finally, all 18 public elementary schools received their own set of ICT equipment (18 units of server computers, 752 units of tablets and head sets) provided jointly by the Rotary International and City Government of Dumaguete.
