More often than not, they are just “recycled” and defeated candidates in some towns beauty pageant without even a semblance of the sophistication of this beautiful university town. Some cannot even talk straight English worthy of pride in this intellectual community It’s high tim ——if ever we spend hundreds of thousans of pesos — just to choose Miss Dumaguete, we better give our taxpayers their money’s worth otherwise, let’s just scrap it outright or just become a source of embarrassment.
“With the crown and title come responsibilities. Miss Dumaguete winner should be a role model and acts as a goodwill ambassador.”—not just look pretty in public appearance but she has to play the role of goodwill ambassador to this growing world-renowned city.
Councilor Alan Gel Cordova bared this during the press –launch of the 12 candidates vying for Miss Dumaguete as he plans to propose a Miss Dumaguete Ordinance.
Cordova observed over the years, the reigning title holder appear to do nothing but look pretty or beautiful in public appearances and events without even any speaking engagements.
Cordova, backing his planned ordinance says pageant title holders are not just eminent persons for special occasions. Apart from proving intelligence, wit, talent and pleasing personality, she must also be an advocate of social service.
Over this, he reasoned out that the propose ordinance to give honor and dignity to the position as the reigning beauty queen. Here, the city government should allocate certain appropriations not only for an honorarium but to advance its advocacy programs through the title holder ambassadress.
He proposes all the future reigning queens to enter into a contract with the city to implement her cause-oriented programs in line with the City’s concerns and make it to public functions as she becomes the face of Dumaguete, said Cordova.
With her success she also plays a big role in promoting her city, Cordova italicized.
A titleholder becomes an advocate to further an important social cause using the popularity factor.. he said, in her own right, she must lead fight against HIV, drug abuse, environmental protection, children’s education by spreading awareness among the youths.
The proposed ordinance intends to provide financial provision for an expected expenses on public appearances like make ups, dresses and efforts for public appearances including the handler’s fees.
“It is but fair to the reigning queen to be rewarded of her efforts for bringing the best of Dumaguete as she will be obligated in the contract,” Cordova said.
This year, the 12 candidates for Miss Dumaguete 2018 include Jannielle Ross Sevilla, Debie Ann Monda, Mikaela Angelique Zayco, Silver Bomediano, Mariel Ursula Hausmanns, Kimberly Anne Cimafranca, Samantha Brynn Ilanga, Jura-Mae Torres, Mafeyh Catalan, Joan Elegado, Cassidy Nave Jaos, and Ella Mae Francisco to vie title on November 23.
