Muslim community seek Halal restaurants

The local Muslim community renewed its request to the Dumaguete city administration, the province or even the entire country to establish Halal restaurants and food outlets due to the growing number of Muslims here.

Muslim socio-cultural and political activist Dr. Haja Zorayda Comedoy said that if an establishment is Halal-certified this does not mean that only Muslims can patronize them. She said what Halal means is that strict processes are being followed in the preparation of the food from the farms to the dining table.

She said Muslims in the Philippines deplore that the country has been so slow in complying with Halal, despite the fact that the Halal industry in the country is worth 3.6 trillion dollars.
