A retiring police officer in Bayawan City is in hot water for alleged violation of RA 3019 otherwise known as the anti-graft and corrupt practices act and for extortion as provided for under the Revised Penal Code (RPC).
SPO1 Roberto Abadiano, 55 years old, resident of Bayawan City are accused of such crimes following an entrapment operation conducted by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) this morning after allegedly demanding P50,000 from a radio commentator whom he arrested in Bayawan City in 2012 for violation of the Comelec gun ban.
DyRL station manager Rene Ledesma claimed that on or about 12:07 noontime of November 26, 2018, SPO1 Abadiano called him through cellphone and demanded P50,000 in exchance for not attending the scheduled hearing on Wednesday, November 28, before the Regional Trial Court Branch 44 in Dumaguete City, and the scheduled pay-off was today, November 27, 2018 at the radio station.
Ledesma felt that Abadiano was making the Comelec gun base case against him by in extorting money, as he had first given P20,000 sometime in 2013. The radio commentator and manager was accused of violating provisions of the comelec gun ban while elections was forthcoming in May 2013, though his gun was licensed and with Permit To Carry (PTC) but without Comelec exemption.
Ledesma said he was forced to seek the help of the NBI because the police officer was already threatening him with death if he will not give in to his demand and besides the amount is so big.
