Second District Cong. Manuel Sagarbarria said that Dumaguete City will be a recipient of two more bridges and an additional shoreline protection project in Barangays Piapi and Bantayan in 2020.
Earlier, Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo announced that the two concrete bridges at the back of Foundation University and near the Bureau of Internal Revenue will begin construction in due time as soon as the Bids and Awards Committee will award the project to the winning contractors.
The city government has appropriated P 24 million for the Colon bridge and P 50 million for the same project near the BIR.
Sagarbarria lauded the partnership between his congressional office and the administration of Mayor Remollo considering that come 2020 the city will soon have 4 concrete bridges that will provide safe travel for motorists despite flooding in Banica River and minimize traffic congestion in the city center.
And in order to further protect the coastal communities in Barangays Piapi and Bantayan from storm surges and high tide, the P 22 million shoreline protection project will be implemented not only to control the destructive waves but also provide an alternate road network to relieve traffic congestion.
