All police stations across the province will implement stricter measures in all ports and wharves and the shorelines especially facing north Mindanao , to prevent terror attacks , illegal landing of arms, and other illegal activities.
Security is also beefed up in tourist resorts facing the south…including isolated shorelines which are to be secured by civilian volunteers living near the areas..
This is in response to the series of bombings in Jolo and Zamboanga City fueling unrest in the region that has been placed under martial law since the Marawi siege.
Also secured are all churches and mosques in Negros Oriental.
The higher headquarters of the Philippine National Police considers the province of Negros Oriental as an internationally known tourist destination in the country. It can be potentially at risk of being one of the targets for terrorism and other illegal activities considering its accessibility like ports/wharf and other access point in the coastal areas wherein contraband and other illegal items can be brought to the province.
The authorities will intensify its intelligence monitoring and target hardening activities in coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard and other law enforcement agencies, Local Government Units, private security providers and other volunteer organizations.
In Dumaguete City, newly installed Officer-In-Charge of the City Police Supt. Gregorio L. Galsim said that he maintains open communication with the local Muslim community to ensure their cooperation in preventing the entry of terrorists and other lawless elements.
CITY OF BAKWITS
It can be recalled that the city accepted hundreds of evacuees who fled during the Marawi siege abandoning their homes but some of whom have since returned after the liberation of the premier Islamic City.
At present, there are Muslim communities in Barangays Taclobo, Bajumpandan and Poblacion 8 in peaceful co existence with their Christian brothers and sisters.
