Two men were arrested for gun ban violation in the towns of Vallehermoso and Sibulan amid a violent week days before the official start of the campaign period for local candidates.
Aurelio Dicipolo Parpan of Maslog Sibulan was arrested by local police after he was accused of indiscriminately firing his gun. The suspect was arrested after the complaint was verified by the authorities and he reportedly surrendered his firearm.
Meanwhile, Mario Zozobrado, 47, of Tagbino, Vallehermoso was also collared by the police after receiving a tip from a concerned citizen that he was in possession of a firearm.
The suspect was caught in the act while holding a 357 caliber revolver with 2 live ammunition and 3 empty shells. Both suspects have been charged accordingly. However, their violation of the existing election gun ban will serve as an aggravating circumstance.
Checkpoints across the province will be intensified by the authorities as local candidates have started their campaign.
During the ban period, licensed gun owners are not allowed to carry their firearms outside their homes only policemen or other law enforcers are in uniform are exempted from the gun ban. Politicians with verified threats to their life and safety will be granted police protection approved by the Commission on Elections.
