Not only was there no reported outbreak of Measles here in Dumaguete and Negros Oriental, there was only one suspected case of Measles this year in contrast to 30 suspected cases last year, according to Dr Leiland Estacion, provincial health officer of the province.
But because of the Dengvaxia phobia among many parents in the hinterlands due to mis-information about the non-similarity to the safe and tested Measles vaccine vis a vis dengavaxia vaccine, there might un-reported Cases of Measles which might have not have reached the provincial health monitors.
Meanwhile, Measles immunization continues unabated among children 5 – 10 years old and even older so long as vaccines last, Dr Estacion said.
The national DOH officer Dr Jun Villamor and the NOPH chief Dr Henrita Calumpang said their outfits continue to monitor any report of measles outbreak so the DOH and NOPH can immediately respond.
Measles symptoms include cough coriza ned conjunctivitis, infection of respsiratory tract, rashes appearing in the body, with fever. These children or adults are advised to see their barangay health worker at their health centers.
